Does God reveal Himself to all mankind? – Psalm 19

Feb 25, 2020 By: Jim Montesano Topic: Sermon Devotional Series: Psalms Scripture: Psalm 19

“The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1 ESV)

Has God revealed Himself to mankind, and if so, in what manner has He done so?

When witnessing to others about the Lord, it is one of the most heard questions from the unbeliever: “What about those who never heard about Jesus like those in parts of the world that are isolated”. It’s true there are parts of Papua New Guinea and other places where the people have never heard of Jesus Christ! The question is “How could they be accountable to God in their case?”

Psalm 19 gives an answer along with other texts that God’s creation itself proclaims His glory Ps 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. We see this in verses 1-6 It goes on in verses 7-11 that God also has revealed Himself in in Word. Ps 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; This speaks of all of God’s Word in the OT, not specifically His law. Psalm 19-1-6 speaks of God’s general revelation and verses 7-11 His special revelation. In the final verses 12-14 we David’s response to God’s revelation Who can discern his errors?  Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart   be acceptable in your sight,   Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Praise God His revelation didn’t end there! In the fullness of time God has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ! Hebrews 1:1-3 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high”
