Jacob’s on the run fleeing from Esau. He comes upon a certain place and falls asleep on the ground; it’s there he has this awesome dream of a ladder reaching from heaven to earth with Angels of God going up and down upon it. At the top is God who speaks to him of the covenant promises that are his, just like they were for Isaac and Abraham. It’s a wonderful story of God’s grace and mercy on one not seeking these things. God’s grace overflows within this story. Jesus explains in John 1:45-51 that the ladder was a type of non other than Jesus Himself. He is the connection from Heaven to earth that makes it possible for sinners to be saved. The only way that a sinner may be saved!
