We start a new section, or Toledoth of Genesis. The genealogy of Jacob, which centers on the life of Joseph.
At first I exposit v 37:2 and look specifically at 2 attributes of Joseph the man. Joseph was a Shepherd, and servant of God. These are two aspects that made Joseph the man he was. Being a Shepherd taught Joseph many things, including leading, feeding, caring, and protecting amongst other things, of the flock. Joseph also was a servant of his father, and more importantly, his Father in Heaven. These are also two attributes all believers are to have, not to the same degree in each, but nevertheless traits all believers should have.
After this, we took a birds eye view of this whole section, ch 37:2-50:26, and we did this by way of analogy, or type-anti-type between Joseph and Jesus Christ. This served us in two ways, first we had a chance to look over briefly what’s coming in this last section of Genesis. But also, it shows the believer the awesomeness of God’s Word. The beauty and intricacies of God’s Word has depth to it, and this is seen by way of type (Joseph) to the anti-type Jesus Christ. I pray you get a taste of what’s to come in the last section of Genesis, and that it sparks a desire to look to God, and to trust Him. If this section shows us anything, it shows us God’s providential hand in His creation. Joseph declares to the brother’s who sold him into slavery, “What you meant for evil against me, God meant it for good! Also Romans 8:28, “For we know that for all who love God, all things work together for good, to those that are the called according to His purpose” Amen
