Like Father, Like Son

Hebrews 1:2-3 says, “in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he ap-pointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.” If God had not chosen to reveal himself to us, we would be in utter darkness. In fact, God is under no obligation to make himself known. However, God has indeed chosen to reveal himself “at many times and in many ways.” Most especially, God is made known through his Son, Jesus Christ. What is the best way to communicate yourself to others? Facebook? Email? Hand-written letters? Most would probably agree that meeting someone face-to-face is the best way to get to know a person. God has accomplished this very thing by send-ing his only begotten Son into the world. Jesus is the “exact imprint” of the nature of God. Jesus is so much like his Father that he told his disciples, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:8). The Son is like the Father in so many ways, as spelled out in this chapter of scripture. What a privilege we have to be able to behold the risen Christ, God’s reve-lation of himself! Furthermore, those who are in Christ have the greatest privilege: we are sons and daughters of the Most High! Because of the Father’s love for us in send-ing his Son, we can call the previously-unknown God not only our God, but our heavenly Father.
