Obedience and Revival (Genesis 12:5-9)

Jun 02, 2023 By: Ibrahim Haro Topic: Sermon Devotional Series: Genesis Scripture: Gen. 12:5-9

We have been following Abram as he departed to go to the land of Canaan. However, there was an unexpected long stay in Haran. Two sermons ago, we explored the hindrances to his call. Some of which included his father, his nephew Lot and the lengthy trip from Ur to Canaan by way of Haran.

In the first 4 verses in Genesis 12, the author reminds us of God’s call and promises to Abram. God promises to bless him and make his name great. He is promised to become a great nation which in turn would be a blessing to the nations.

Finally, in verse 5 and onwards, we arrive with him into the promised land. In these verses, Abram enters the land and starts to explore it. He is introduced to the Canaanites who are inhabiting the land. As he is doing so, he begins to experience new blessings and visions of God in response to his full obedience to the call he had received.

This week, we will explore these blessings and new experience of God. Our outline will be as follows:

  1. Obedience
  2. The fruits of his obedience
  3. A God worthy of obedience
  4. Application & conclusion

May our Lord prepare our hearts and minds to receive His word and obey it for the glory of His name.
