I Will Call You My People

God’s salvific purpose for the Jew has not failed as He never promised that every individual Jew would be saved. However the extension of God’s grace to the Gentiles spoken of by Paul in Romans 9, was first seen by the prophet Hosea in the naming of his three children, Jezreel, Loruhama, and Loammi – meaning ‘scattered,’ ‘not pitied,’ and ‘not my people.’ However God would later promise Hosea (2:23) that He would undo the curse represented by these names, by sowing instead of scattering, having mercy instead of not pitying, and calling them, ‘my people.’ So today, Gentiles, who were once not a people, and without hope in the world, can call upon the name of the Lord and be saved, and thereby become children of Abraham by faith and children of God.
